Adults and teens have the option to complete gonorrhea testing at home. Parents of sexually active teens are advised to take an active role in this testing, as teens may not understand the need or be able to afford testing on their own. Home tests are both accurate and affordable. Discussing sex with your teen may be embarrassing, but needs to be done regardless.
Home testing may reduce some of the embarrassment, as they need only provide a urine sample. Taking your teen to a clinic may prove more difficult, and this may be avoidable if the test results are negative. Once the home urine sample has been returned and tested, the results of the tests will be made available online. A negative test will surely provide peace of mind. A positive test will allow you to take the appropriate action. Should this be the case, you can then schedule an examination.
Teens that are sexually active are just as susceptible to STD’s and infections as adults. Many say even more so due to the fact that they do not always use the best judgment. Gonorrhea testing, as well as many other STD tests can now be completed without ever leaving home. Though your teen may not feel that they need to be tested, in reality, everyone that is sexually active should be from time to time.
