Agreement on mercury-free medicine
UNEP has developed this new version of the treaty, published last July 22 at the request of the countries that participated last January at the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the preparation of legally binding instrument on mercury management (INC2 in English), held in Chiba (Japan).
This text, which was created to reflect the different views expressed at meetings INC, points to important global challenges of mercury, including limits on the use of mercury in processes and products such as food, pesticides, paints, dental fillings or veterinary drugs and human.
From these and other issues will be discussed in the next round of negotiations (INC-3), which will run from October 31 to November 4 in Nairobi (Kenya).
For the president of the Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs (ComEd), Lisa Sykes, the mother of a child diagnosed with mercury poisoning related to a vaccine, “the unnecessary injection of mercury to pregnant women and children, as part of a vaccine or other drugs, it is common practice and often unrecognized. “
Chimerical (49.6% mercury by weight), a substance that is still used as a preservative in vaccines and sterilizing agent process is a component unnecessary and sometimes not declared, in many vaccines.
Its use is associated with underdevelopment disorders, cancer, birth defects and miscarriage. Those most affected by chimerical in vaccines are fetuses and newborns.
